Paddy has been a lifelong music fan, although sports dominated his life until 1989. His soccer coach loaned him a guitar and Paddy taught himself some chords. His desire to learn guitar came from his love of Irish traditional music and contemporary artists such as U2 and R.E.M. Paddy names them among his musical influences, along with songwriters such as Sting and Van Morrison. His influences, however, are subconscious; he is working to achieve a unique sound and approach as an artist. His lyrical influences can come from poetry, books, or conversation.
Paddy began his musical career as a solo act in the early nineties. He was joined by Bill Ayerbe in March 1998.
Bill actually met Paddy in a local pub where he stopped in for a drink after a symphony rehearsal. Bill began his violin studies at the age of three in New York City. He is a very gifted, classically trained violinist and was formerly the concert master for the Fayetteville Symphony Orchestra. He is now teaching violin and playing gigs with Paddy.
Paddy & Bill are currently based in Fayetteville, North Carolina and are playing to packed houses in the Carolinas. Their repertoire of traditional Irish music, bawdy pub songs, covers, and original music continues to draw crowds gig after gig. The pub songs, notably The Friendly Little Cat, Alice, Seven Drunken Nights, Barnacle Bill, Wild Rover, etc, draw a very large following from the local college community and from the military community at nearby Fort Bragg and Pope Air Force Base. The fan base is now extended worldwide due to the connection to these installations.
Paddy & Bill have recorded four CD albums, one CD single, and one audio cassette. The audio cassette, Live At The Shanakee, was recorded live at the Shanakee Irish Pub in Wilmington, North Carolina. It consists of covers, Irish traditionals, and pub songs. Their first CD, Live At The Radisson, was recorded live at Babe's Lounge in the Radisson Prince Charles Hotel in Fayetteville, North Carolina. It is also covers, Irish traditionals, and pub songs. Their second CD, Live-Love-Now, was their first album of all original songs. The third CD, One Drunken Night, was recorded live at Coaches Sports Grill in Fayetteville, North Carolina.
